Support for EAL

At Irlam and Cadishead Academy, we have a rich and multicultural diversity, with currently more than 50 EAL students on roll. All of our students with English as an Additional Language (EAL) are given the opportunity to take a GCSE in their home language during Key Stage 4 wherever this is possible (Language dependent).

As a school, we work closely with the Salford Ethnic Minority Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS) service who offer assessment, guidance, training, and specialist intervention sessions for students who require this support. We support parental engagement and involvement by working with external agencies to provide support for parents through an interpreter when required and where possible.

All ICA students are provided with Knowledge Organisers in each subject, these documents help with key words, terms and information for topics. KnowledgOrganisers are given out half termly and support with Mid Year and End of Year exams. Our library is open to students for assist with their homework and reading at break times, lunch times and after school until 4pm.

For student wellbeing, we have a Pastoral Teamconsisting of Heads of Year, Attendance and Safeguarding. All students are supported in lessons through High Quality First Teaching (HQFT) and staff attend regular CPD sessions to develop teaching excellence.

At ICA we have a wide range of Extra Curricular Clubsthese offer help with friendships, social skills and ability to try new opportunities. We can also offer essential resources and equipment for students who require this, for example, uniforms and stationery.
