Class of 2030 - Year 6 Transition

Year 6 is an exciting time for many primary school children, but it can also be a daunting time as they start to think about transitioning into Year 7.

We have a programme of support and events that you and your child can engage with to support this process.

Our Transition Lead

We have a dedicated Transition Lead, Miss Salt, who will support you and your child every step of the way.  Miss Salt has worked in primary schools for the past 12 years and brings with her a wealth of experience.

If you have any questions about joining Irlam and Cadishead Academy or would like to book a tour of the school, please don’t hesitate to contact Miss Salt at transitions@irlamandcadishead.org.uk.

ICA Year 6 Transition Club – Every Thursday 4pm-5pm

Our Year 6 Transition Club runs every Thursday 4pm-5pm at Irlam and Cadishead Academy.  This is an amazing opportunity for your child to get to know the academy, meet ICA staff and make new friends.

Children get the chance to take part in a range of fun activities all designed to help them make friend and build confidence ready for starting secondary school.  Your child can enjoy a variety of activities, including sports, scavenger hunts, subject-focused sessions, and much more, while making new friends and gaining confidence for the next step in their education!

This is a FREE event – simply fill out a consent form and turn up!  No need to book!

Transition Induction Visits

In the Autumn term of Year 6, our transition team and the Salford Youth Service (IYS) will begin a series of visits to all year 6 classes, a total of three visits across the academic year.

The aim of the first visit will be to allow all Year 6 students to explore their thoughts and feelings about transitioning into secondary school.  Students can explore their worries and concerns such as making friends, finding their way around school and meeting new teachers, in the nurturing environment of their primary school.

Following visits focus on those students who have accepted a place at Irlam and Cadishead Academy.  We bring our own ICA students to the visits where the primary children have the opportunity to ask questions about life at secondary school.  These engaging sessions aim to allow children to build relationships with our existing students and hear their first-hand experiences of secondary school life.

Primary Visits & Assemblies

From National Offer Day on Monday 3rd March, our Transition Lead will visit your child’s primary school on a regular basis, liaising with your child’s primary school teachers, to build a detailed understanding of the children who will be starting in September at ICA.  She will also attend assemblies and other primary school events so that she becomes a familiar, friendly face to your child.

Stepping Stone Days

Working together with the primaries, children who may need additional support settling into the Academy are identified.  We offer tailored ‘Stepping Stones’ days offsite at RHS Garden Bridgewater where children participate in team building activities.

Transition Days – 26th & 27th June 2025

In June, all children who have a place at Irlam and Cadishead Academy will attend our Transition Days.  At this two-day event your child will be officially inducted into Irlam and Cadishead Academy and take part in an exciting programme of events including curriculum workshops, sports activities and house competitions!  They will get to meet some of their teachers, eat in the school canteen and get to know the routines of the academy.

This two-day induction is an important part of your child’s transition into the academy, and we ask for your support in ensuring your child attends.

Parent Information Evening – 26th June 2025

Parents of children starting in September will be invited to a Parent Information Evening.  At this event, the Principal and senior leaders will share key information with you about the academy.  You will also meet your child’s Head of Year, the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo) and your child’s form tutor.
