GCSE Celebrations at Irlam and Cadishead

Joy for Year 11 students at Irlam and Cadishead Academy after they received their GCSE results earlier today.

Some of the school’s standout individual successes – securing a host of the highest 8 and 9 grades – include:

  • Fraiser Hunt, who achieved three grade 9s, two grade 8s, two grade 7s, one grade 6, one grade 5 and one grade 4;

  • Nicole Drummond, who achieved two grade 9s, two grade 8s, one grade 8-8 in combined science, two grade 7s and one grade 4;

  • Ilyse Dougherty, who achieved one grade 9, two grade 8s, a grade 7-6 in combined science, two grade 6s, one grade 5 and a Level 2 Merit in performing arts;

  • Madeleine King, who achieved six grade 8s and three grade 6s;

  • Naina Atwal, who achieved four grade 8s, three grade 7s, one grade 6 and an A* in childcare.

Commenting on her success, one Year 11 student said:

“I feel really excited about my results! I’m planning to go to College to study A Levels in art, history and English Language and then on to university to study English Language. I’ve got it all planned out!”

Another student, Rio Edwards, added:

“The result I’m most proud of is in engineering as I got a Level 2 Distinction* which is equivalent to a grade 9 – I’m happy with that! My plan is to study maths, physics and engineering and electronics at Priestly College and then get into aerospace engineering.”

Toni Holdsworth, Principal at Irlam and Cadishead Academy, said:

“GCSEs are such an important stepping stone for young people and so it is particularly pleasing to see so many of our students receiving grades that will help them on to the next stage of their education journey. Whilst assessments and marking are back to pre-pandemic standards, it’s easy to forget that these students have had their education disrupted over the past years so their resilience, hard work and determination must be applauded. I am so pleased for everyone here at the school and congratulate them on their success today.”
