Safeguarding

Irlam and Cadishead Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all of its students. Each student’s welfare is of paramount importance. Our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy can be read HERE and to view our Keeping Children Safe In Education Policy please click HERE.

  • We recognise that some children may be especially vulnerable to abuse.
  • We recognise that children who are abused or neglected may find it difficult to develop a sense of self-worth and to view the world in a positive way. Whilst at the Academy, some of their behaviours may be challenging.
  • We recognise that some children who have experienced abuse may harm others.
  • We will always take a considered and sensitive approach in order that we can support all of our pupils.
  • Any deficiencies or weaknesses in child protection arrangements will be remedied without delay.

Child protection

Irlam and Cadishead Academy has a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of students. This responsibility necessitates a child protection policy and robust procedures. Where there are concerns about a child’s welfare the school will contact appropriate agencies, share information with them and work in partnership with them.

Concerns will be discussed with the family if it will not place the child at risk of significant harm. The child’s view will also be considered in deciding whether to inform the family in some circumstances, particularly where the child is sufficiently mature to make informed judgements. The interest of the child is paramount.

Protecting young people from extremism and radicalisation

The DfE has launched the Educate Against Hate website. The site brings together the best advice, support and resources available for parents, teachers and school leaders who want to learn how to protect young people from extremism and radicalisation, and is the result of successful collaboration between the Department for Education, the Home Office, the NSPCC, Internet Matters, Childnet, ParentZone, UK Internet Safety Centre, and the many other organisations who have contributed resources.
