How we are managing the risk of Covid-19

PLEASE NOTE: No general visitors are allowed on the school site

At Irlam and Cadishead Academy, our number one priority is the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff. A lot has changed since we returned to school, and we have worked tirelessly to ensure that our site is as safe as can possibly be when it comes to managing the risk presented to us by Covid-19.

Guidance on your child's absence should they develop symptoms during term-time can be found HERE.

As part of the Government catch-up scheme we have been awarded additional funding to support our students in narrowing the gaps in their learning created due to lockdown. We have received £39,000 specifically for in-school tutoring and have successfully recruited tutors in English and Maths with this funding to deliver small group interventions. Catch-up funding allocation stands at £47,080 for our school. Full information regarding the amount we have received and how this funding has been spent can be found in our Covid Catch-up Premium Plan HERE

The Department for Education has launched a new helpline to answer questions about COVID-19 related to education. Staff, parents and young people can contact the helpline as follows:
Phone: 0800 046 8687 (Opening hours: 8am to 6pm- Monday to Friday)
Email: DfE.coronavirushelpline@education.gov.uk

Students and their families should be aware of all key changes  - details of which can be found below.

On Arrival

  • ICA daily entrance and exit routines can be found HERE
  • When students arrive at school all students will be asked to sanitise hands and they will have their temperatures checked.
  • Students must arrive promptly at staggered times to their Year Group outside space, line up in Form Groups with face covering on, in alphabetical order and are silent on the whistle.
  • Students will be in a year group bubble – we will be taking measures to minimise opportunities for mixing across year groups.
  • Students will be asked to enter the building at their allocated entrance and to wear a face covering whilst walking through communal areas.

Around School

  • There are posters and tape around school to remind students that they should make every attempt to stay 2m or at least 1m+ away from other students.
  • The most effective method of reducing transmission of the virus is to wash and clean hands regularly - this will be encouraged.
  • All doors in the academy as far as possible will be open in order to reduce touchpoints in school and to allow air circulation throughout
  • There are hand sanitiser stations around school in all key areas.
  • All areas of the school will receive more frequent cleaning and there will be hand sanitiser and cleaning spray available throughout the school. We will continue to encourage students to wash their hands regularly and promote the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach for any sneezes or coughs.

In Lessons

  • Students will be expected to bring their own equipment to school and keep this safe, as sharing or lending of equipment will not be permitted.
  • Students will be expected to wear PE kit on days in which they are timetabled PE lessons. Click HERE for further information regarding ICA PE kit.
  • Sport and Physical Education will predominantly take place outdoors and contact sports will not be played.  PE lessons will involve activity with minimal or no equipment.
  • Practical activities in lessons including Science, Food and DT will contine where possible.
  • Staff will teach from the front of rooms, keeping social distance and students will be seated at desks front facing.
  • There are several hand sanitiser stations throughout each bubble area; students will be requested to sanitise hands on entering and leaving classrooms.

During Break and Lunch

  • Each year group has been allocated a specific outside area away from other year groups.
  • Students are not permitted to enter other year group areas and should they do this there will be strict sanctions imposed.
  • There are separate dining facilities in each of the year group bubbles serving sandwiches and baguettes
  • We would recommend where possible that students bring a packed lunch at this time.
  • All students will be expected to go outside in all weather so please ensure that your child has an appropriate outdoor coat and umbrella.
